The legendary story of Kuveni, a princess of Lanka found spinning cotton when Prince Vijaya first arrived in our land, suggests that there has been a textile industry even before 2,500 years ago.

The history is recorded on a stone inscription from 1st century A.D. which states that Pehakaravavi is a name given to a reservoir in honour of weavers, in recognition of their service.

Handloom weaving is known as decorating a textile with passion. A woven textile is made by intersecting warp and weft yarns. A handloom weaver has the luxury to pick and choose colour and different materials to create a sensational fabric.
